Mavericks Complete Postseason Sweep, Advance to Western Conference Finals
On the ice, the Kansas City Mavericks are keeping their dominant postseason run alive after advancing to the Western Conference Finals in the ECHL Kelly Cup Playoffs.
The Mavericks put an exclamation point on the Mountain Division Finals with a thrilling 5-3 victory over the Allen Americans in Game 4, securing a flawless four-game series sweep. The Mavericks remain a perfect 8-0 in the postseason. Jackson Jutting led the charge with a spectacular hat trick, while Casey Carreau and Bobo Carpenter also found the back of the net. After already capturing the ECHL’s Brabham Cup for the league’s best regular-season record, the Mavericks are now just one series away from playing for the Kelly Cup championship. Postseason hockey excitement returns to Cable Dahmer Arena this weekend, and tickets are on sale now:
- Game 1: Friday, May 22 at 7:05 p.m.

KC Current Dominate the Pitch; World Cup Anticipation Builds
On the soccer pitch, the Kansas City Current continue to build massive momentum. On May 17, the club unveiled its sleek new third kit at CPKC Stadium, celebrating the reveal with a convincing 3-0 victory over the Houston Dash in front of another packed riverfront crowd. The match showcased an aggressive attacking performance paired with a lockdown defensive effort.
The Current remain firmly in the NWSL playoff race, maintaining a regular-season record of 7 wins, 4 losses, and 1 draw (7-4-1).
The team hits the road tomorrow night, Wednesday, May 20 at 9:00 p.m., to take on Angel City FC. Local fans can catch the broadcast or head down to CPKC Stadium for the official stadium watch party. The Current will return home on Sunday, May 24 at 12:00 p.m. for their next home match.

Countdown to the FIFA World Cup
For soccer fans already counting down the days until the FIFA World Cup arrives this summer, the citywide excitement is just getting started. Kansas City’s official FIFA Fan Festival will take place on the grounds of the National WWI Museum and Memorial near Liberty Memorial. Thousands of fans are expected to gather on the lawn for massive watch parties, live concerts, and celebrations throughout the tournament, offering a global stadium atmosphere right here in KC—even for those without tickets to the matches at Arrowhead.
Closer to home in the Historic Northeast, residents won’t have to travel far to experience the magic. Expect neighborhood bars and restaurants all along Independence Avenue and the surrounding community to have their screens tuned to World Cup matches all summer long, offering plenty of local spots to gather, grab a bite, and celebrate the beautiful game together.
