A series of violent incidents in Northeast last weekend left multiple people injured, one man dead in a homicide, and another killed in an officer-involved shooting, raising concerns as investigators continue to sort through these three separate cases.

The first incident occurred Saturday morning (April 25) at the Lit Smoke Shop near Independence Avenue and Chestnut. According to authorities, two women entered the business in what investigators say was an attempted robbery. During the encounter, gunfire was exchanged between the suspects and an employee.

One of the women was struck and transported to a nearby hospital. Both suspects were later identified as Ashley Mack and Mia Shaw. Jackson County Prosecutors have since charged the pair with unlawful use of a weapon, armed criminal action, and second-degree burglary in connection with this incident. UPDATE: Images of defendant Ashley Mack have now been released publicly.

Just hours before, on Friday evening, April 24, Kansas City police responded to the area of Independence Avenue and Monroe Avenue after being flagged down by a passerby reporting a shooting. Officers located 48-year-old Bobby Nimmo lying in a grassy area with apparent gunshot wounds.

Police performed emergency aid until EMS arrived, but Nimmo was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have publicly identified him as the victim, though no suspect information or charges had been announced as of this week. Investigators have said they are pursuing leads and believe they are making progress in this case.

A third incident unfolded Sunday evening, April 26, near the 5700 block of St. John Avenue and Lawndale Avenue, where officers were dispatched on a reported domestic violence disturbance. Neighbors reported hearing gunshots around 8:37 p.m. on Sunday, April 26.

According to KCPD’s Media Unit, officers encountered an armed man outside the residence. Police say the suspect fired at officers, prompting an exchange of gunfire. The man, later identified as 35-year-old Alejandro Landen-Ramirez, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Because this shooting involved officers, the investigation has been turned over to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, which will present findings to the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office for review. No decisions regarding the officers’ actions have been announced.

While each case remains distinct, these incidents underscore a tense and troubling weekend for residents and businesses throughout Northeast.
