Jackson County voters will head to the polls again on Tuesday, Nov. 4 to answer yes or no on Question #1:

Shall Articles III, IV, and V of the Jackson County Charter, adopted by vote on November 3, 1970, and amended by public votes on August 8, 1978, April 2, 1985, November 4, 1986, August 2, 1994, August 3, 2010, and November 6, 2018 be amended to require that the Charter Office of the Jackson County Assessor no longer be a qualified appointee and instead be an elected position?

This is the only question on the ballot for Kansas Citians residing in Jackson County.

The current director of the County Assessment Department is Gail McCann Beatty, who was appointed to this position by former County Executive Frank White, Jr.

White vetoed a similar ballot initiative in July 2025, stating this question could be put to vote during a regular election in August or November 2026.

White was recalled as Jackson County Executive during a special election on Sept. 30. Kansas City-area attorney Phil LeVota was selected by the County Legislature on Oct. 15 to complete White’s term.

No Excuse Absentee Voting began Tuesday, Oct. 21 at the Kansas City Election Board, 4405 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. Voting hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays through Oct. 31 and Saturdays from 8 a.m to 12 p.m. On Monday, Nov. 3, voting is available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Northeast area voters may cast an early ballot at the Garrison Community Center, 1124 E. 5th St., weekdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., excluding Monday, Nov. 3.
