UPDATED — Just before 6 p.m., Monday, April 28, Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) officers responded to the intersection of Ninth Street and Prospect Avenue on a reported shooting call.
Once on the scene, officers discovered an adult male victim, unresponsive and experiencing gunshot wounds in a liquor store parking lot. KCPD requested Emergency medical Services (EMS) to the scene, who transported the individual with critical injuries to a local hospital, according to a release from KCPD Media Unit, Monday evening.
Upon arrival, hospital staff informed officers that the victim had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. On Wednesday, April 30, KCPD’s Media Unit released the victim’s identity as Donovan Booker, B/M, 8/19/2006.
A preliminary investigation conducted by KCPD revealed that several individuals were involved in a physical altercation upon entering a store near the dispatch location with additional individuals, which led to gunfire, Monday evening.
At that time, officers assisted and removed bystanders from the area and to safety as they searched for additional suspects, according to a release from KCPD Media Unit, Monday.
KCPD took several suspects into custody at the scene for questioning and is not currently searching for other individuals.
Tuesday, April 29, Jackson County Prosecutor Meleesa Johnson announced a suspect had been charged with 2nd Degree Murder, 1st Degree Attempted Robbery and Armed Criminal Action. Defendant Jeremiah Williamson is being held on $100,000 cash bond.
