KANSAS CITY, Missouri – One man is dead and a woman was injured after what police called a rolling gun battle that took place near Independence Avenue and Van Brunt at around 10:19 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28.
According to Police, people in two vehicles were exchanging gunfire near Fire Station 23 on the Avenue. When police responded to the area they located a Hispanic male in his 20’s and a Hispanic female in her 20’s inside a vehicle, both suffering from gunshot wounds. The male, later identified as KCMO resident Anthony Martinez (DOB 7/5/1985), was pronounced dead at the scene. The female was transported to an area hospital with non life threatening injuries, and is in stable condition.
Authorities are hoping that surveillance cameras on nearby buildings will shed more light on this case and help to identify the suspect who is still at large. At this time, there is no suspect vehicle information. This is the second homicide in this vicinity in less than two weeks.
