It’s a season to remember for the Northeast Vikings. For the first time in school history, the boys varsity soccer team has completed the regular season without a defeat — standing tall, unbeaten and unbowed. According to Kansas City Public Schools, the Vikings finished the regular slate at 21-0.  They’ve been dominant: after a win earlier this fall they stood 20-0 with 119 goals scored and just 4 allowed. 

Coach Hawkins and his squad have built something special: a tight-knit group that defends with discipline, attacks with flair, and plays for each other. From sunrise trainings to late-night video sessions to the camaraderie at practice, the chemistry has been undeniable. It’s the kind of season that will live long in Vikings lore.

Monday’s match against Guadalupe Center HS (November 3) was another emphatic chapter in this remarkable campaign. The Vikings came out assertively, controlled possession, and found the back of the net multiple times in a convincing win (reported score: 6-0). 

From the first whistle the boys set the tone — strong pressing, crisp passing, and clinical finishing. Defensively, the back line and keeper kept the opponent at bay, maintaining yet another clean sheet. In the second half the substitutes came in, fresh legs kept the momentum going, and by the final whistle there was no doubt: the Vikings were dominant once more.

This win carries the confidence of a team that knows its standard, knows what it’s capable of, and refuses to settle for anything less than excellence.

Tonight, Thursday, November 6, the Vikings face the Lincoln Prep Tigers in the District Semi Final. The game will be played at Van Horn High School at 6pm. This isn’t just another match: it’s the moment to close the regular campaign on the brightest possible note. To acknowledge how far they’ve come, and to send a message to the postseason: we are here, we are ready, we are capable.

The crowd should expect energy, passion, and the trademark Vikings grit. The players will be dialed in — knowing that while the regular season record is stellar, the work doesn’t stop here. They’ll want to finish with the same fire, the same focus, the same unity. It’s a party of a season backdropped by purpose.

Fans are encouraged to show up early, bring the noise, wear the school colors, and cheer on these young men who have already made history. Let tonight feel special — because it absolutely is.

Onward to the Class 3 State Tournament

With the regular season wrapped, the real test begins: the state tournament awaits. The Vikings’ flawless record sends a message to every opponent: we’ve been tested, we’ve succeeded, and we aren’t done yet. While specific brackets and match-ups will be announced soon, one thing is clear — this team is in the mix, and the hunting begins.

For this group, the goal is more than winning games: it’s about seizing a moment, finishing what they started, honoring the journey, and leaving a legacy. Seniors will want to go out with a bang, underclassmen will want to carry the torch forward, and the whole Vikings family will rally behind them.
