The Kansas City School Board (KCPS) is taking their monthly meetings “On the Road” and their next stop is Northeast High School (415 van Brunt Blvd.) on Wednesday March 18, 2026, at 6:30 pm. The meeting is open to the public and will take place in the school gymnasium.
Come see our School Board in action, get a close-up view of Northeast HS. Voice your concerns on how our public schools are serving the community and hear first-hand the current issues.
Theresa Hieronymus, President of the NEHS Alumni Association, sees this as a crucial time for our neighborhood to show support for our High School.
“A strong alumni and community presence at this meeting is essential. Enrollment and attendance at Northeast are up. Internal disturbances have decreased by 40% this year. With potential magnet school closures looming, Northeast enrollment is expected to increase. We must ensure the KCPS Board recognizes that Northeast is as valuable as any other institution in our District. Our historic school deserves equal funding and attention. Unfortunately, our requests and maintenance orders often fall to the bottom of the priority list. Many board members have never even been inside of our school.
In 2022, our Alumni Association was instrumental in preventing the closure of Northeast. Now, we must continue that momentum and demonstrate the depth of community support for our school, our neighborhood, our staff and our students.
Please come show your support! Help spread the word. Encourage others to attend this meeting.”
Public Speakers are limited to 10 speakers and no more than 3 minutes per speaker. Speakers must exercise proper decorum for a family environment. Speakers are presenting information, not debating issues or looking for a question-and-answer session. They should identify the topic they want to speak on when registering, along with their name, address and phone number. They may submit supporting documents for their topic.
Speakers may pre-register before 3 PM the day of the meeting by calling Office of Board Services at (816) 418-7621 or via email to llimberg@kcpublicschools.org. Alternatively, they may sign the “Speaking at the Board Meeting” sheet before 6:15 the night of the meeting.
