Dear Historic Northeast Community:

It is with a heavy heart that I announce my resignation as editor-in-chief of The Northeast News.

I will always be grateful for the time I have served in this role and the opportunity to share my journalistic knowledge with the Historic Northeast community.

I am first and foremost a reporter with strong beliefs in the power of storytelling, the Society of Professional Journalist’s Code of Ethics and the truth. I believe in holding people in powerful positions accountable.

While my time here was not for the faint of heart, I remained dedicated to this community and the founding principles of journalism, which were established by Walter Williams at the founding of the University of Missouri School of Journalism in 1908.

I took an oath when I became a journalist, to tell the truth and to adhere to the Journalist’s Creed. Throughout my time at The Northeast News, I have worked to not only live by this example, but to additionally instill these practices in those who came after me.

To those whom I have come to know over these past 15 months, I thank you for your service and dedication to upholding the truth. We must continue to shed light on the people and the subjects in positions of power.

The Northeast News has a long history that came before me, and I know it has a great future ahead. I am thrilled to see it unfold.

I will go on in my career, but I will always remember this newsroom and the community that launched me.

Thank you.

Respectfully,

Julia Williams
