Kansas City Police Department will arm women with the skills they need to stay safe through two women’s personal safety seminars on April 28 and May 5.

Each free four-hour seminar will focus on awareness, prevention, streetwise caution and self defense. Kansas City Police Academy instructors and other KCPD officers will lead the class, which features an hour of classroom instruction and three hours of hands-on activities and defensive tactics training.

Topics will include self defense techniques; identity theft prevention; and safety tips for the home, car, purses, shopping, exercising and more. All women are invited to participate and do not have to be Kansas City residents.

The first course will be held from 8 a.m. to noon April 28 at Paseo Academy, 4747 Flora. The May 5 course will also run from 8 a.m. to noon at the Kansas City Regional Police Academy 6885 N.E. Pleasant Valley Rd. Enrollment is open to females age 16 and older, but those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Participation is limited to 50 women at each event.
