Columbus Park’s Café Cà Phê celebrated three years in business on Saturday, Aug. 16 at its location, 916 E. Fifth St.

Kansas City’s first Vietnamese coffee shop, which started out as a coffee truck around 2020 — Café Cà Phê and sister organization Hella Good Deeds members shared previously with Northeast News — opened its doors in August 2022.

In its past three years, the business has gone on to foster partnerships with the Northeast community as well as its suppliers: Torani, Nguyen Coffee Supply and Chobani.

In addition to offering drinks and treats for customers on Saturday, various vendors were also set up selling products and offering information on their businesses. This included Hella Good Deeds, MackBecks — a Kansas City artist specializing in jewelry and functional, nostalgic art pieces — as well as Jess Nyugen, a freelance artist and lead designer for Café Cà Phê.

“Being in Columbus Park for the last 3 years has been a huge blessing. We love being surrounded by an entire neighborhood of immigrants, a thriving Italian community and especially where many Vietnamese immigrated to. It’s not just about the coffee, but a place for our community to do events, educational series, and workshops like financial literacy and mental health,” Café Cà Phê Owner Jackie Nguyen shared.

“Our coffee shop has felt like a safe haven for our community and being in Columbus park is the reason why we feel so safe. We could not survive in this neighborhood without the love and support of our actual neighbors. They protect us and watch over our shop in ways that sustain our business and our hearts,” she said.

Café Cà Phê is currently offering its “Asian Baby Menu,” which includes drinks like its Fresh Off the Float matcha with strawberry puree and banana cold foam and its Kevin Nguyen with Vietnamese espresso, banana, black peppercorn and star anise.
