Elected officials, community leaders and members gathered on Tuesday, July 8 for an unveiling of the soccer field renovations at 9th Street and Van Brunt Boulevard.

A project that began in 2024 is officially complete after a $3 million dollar renovation. Along with the new championship quality turf fields, new bleachers to accommodate up to 500 people were installed as well as locker rooms with showers and restrooms for teams to use.

Mayor Quinton Lucas was in attendance at the unveiling where he talked about the importance of providing spaces such as the fields for the community, particularly in Northeast. Students from local Ryogoku Soccer Academy (606 Gladstone Blvd.) — who regularly use these fields for programming — were present and participated in the ‘First Kick’ along the mayor.

In addition to these completed renovations, two more soccer pitches funded by Street Soccer USA will be completed this fall.
