Kansas City’s Northeast got a big boost of national attention this week, thanks to none other than retired NFL star Jason Kelce.
The former Philadelphia Eagles center, known for his larger-than-life personality and love of local diners, recently dropped by Peter May’s House of Kielbasa, located near East 17th Street and Bristol Avenue. Kelce documented his visit with photos and video shared on Instagram, calling the neighborhood deli “an absolute gem of an establishment” and “a must stop for anyone who loves smoked cylindrical meats.”
For Northeast residents, though, this local gem has long been on the radar. Peter May’s has been a fixture of Kansas City’s East Side for generations, known for its signature smoked sausages and old-school charm. The business has also been a proud supporter of the Northeast News, appearing in past Faces of Northeast features and participating in community events such as National Cheeseburger Day.
During his visit, Kelce didn’t just stop in for a bite—he jumped behind the counter, chatted with customers, and even helped take orders, making quite an impression on owner Mike Loges and his team.
Jason Kelce, of course, is no stranger to Kansas City connections—he’s the older brother of Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. And while Jason’s culinary recommendations often draw crowds wherever he goes, there’s no word yet on whether his brother and Taylor Swift might be next in line to stop by for a kielbasa sandwich of their own.
Founded more than 90 years ago, Peter May’s has stayed in the same family for four generations, serving as both a local gathering place and a link to Kansas City’s Polish heritage. Kelce’s post has already brought thousands of new eyes to the small business, with many social media users adding it to their “must-try” list of Kansas City spots.
For the Northeast community, though, Kelce’s endorsement is less a discovery and more a reminder of what locals already know—that Peter May’s House of Kielbasa is one of Kansas City’s true treasures.
