BREAKING — Just after 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 25, Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) officers responded to the area of Sixth Street and Park Avenue within the Independence Plaza neighborhood on a reported shooting call.
Once on the scene, officers discovered an adult male with gunshot wounds. The Kansas City Fire Department (KCFD) and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were requested to the scene and transported the victim to a nearby hospital in critical condition, according to a release from KCPD Media Unit, Sunday evening.
An initial investigation of the incident performed by assault squad detectives and crime scene investigators revealed an interaction between the victim and another individual in the street, which led to gunfire, according to a release from KCPD Media Unit, Sunday.
Hospital staff notified KCPD that the victim had succumbed to his injuries just before 10 p.m. on Sunday evening. KCPD has identified the victim as Mark Facio (33).
This incident is currently under homicide investigation and remains ongoing at this time.
