BREAKING- Just before 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 6, Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) officers responded to the 4000 block of Morrell within the Scarritt Renaissance neighborhood on a reported shooting call.
Once on the scene, officers located an adult female victim, unresponsive in front of a residence with gunshot wounds, according to a release from KCPD Media Unit, Wednesday evening.
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were requested to the scene who declared the victim deceased upon scene arrival. The victim was identified as Braisen Cain (42), KCPD Media Unit shared, Thursday morning.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the victim had an escalated interaction with another individual or individuals in front of a residence, which led to gunfire, Wednesday evening. The suspect(s) fled from the scene.
This case is currently under homicide investigation and remains ongoing at this time.
Detectives and investigators are canvassing the scene for any evidence and potential witness statements. Detectives have identified a subject of interest at this time and are working with prosecutors to take this subject into custody.
