KANSAS CITY, Missouri – Just after 8:30 a.m. on the  morning of Thursday, April 6, Kansas City police were called to the area of Van Brunt and Smart on an ambulance call. Upon arrival officers discovered the body of a female with prevalent signs of injury in a vehicle parked on Smart.

“Officers observed an individual inside the vehicle with no apparent signs of life,” said KCPD Sgt. Kari Thompson.

Police then set up an outer and an inner perimeter around three vehicles on Smart. The investigation is ongoing, though a statement issued by KCPD Media Unit Captain Stacey Graves indicated that the death is being investigated as a homicide.

On the morning of Monday, April 10, KCPD identified the victim as 34-year-old Elaine Segovia of Independence. The police department also urged anyone with information related to the incident to please call 911, or reach out to the TIPS hotline at 816-474-8477.
