Subway at 1831 Independence Ave., is one of two Subway locations (3550 E. Truman Road) within the Historic Northeast and is its own franchise within the Subway corporation. With a worldwide motto of “eat fresh” its various locations — including this location — remain dedicated to serving fresh products, from baked bread to produce, every day.
Subway began in 1965 in Bridgeport, Connecticut as a partnership between a 17 year-old — Fred DeLuca — and a nuclear physicist — Peter Buck. This original submarine sandwich shop has gone on to expand into over 37,000 franchise locations across the U.S., and various countries within Europe and Asia, among others.
Building a foundation of values for each restaurant to follow, its brand focuses on “providing exceptional service to valued guests,” “offering high-quality, flavorful and better-for-you menu options at great value” and to “never stop evolving to improve the Subway brand,” according to its website.
This Independence Avenue location has continued to implement and practice these core company values throughout its many years of operation for the Northeast Community. And it is this attention to detail, which has left them with a slew of positive, five-star reviews, including compliments anywhere from appreciation of customer service, to atmosphere and quality menu offerings.
It is these three elements, which one Northeast resident has continued to experience at this location for over a decade.
“I enjoy that there’s always fast and friendly staff,” Scarritt Renaissance homeowner and Subway customer, Ian Dobyns shared.
Dobyns has lived in the Northeast for over 15 years, and as a full-time musician, efficiency is an aspect, which remains important to him. He said it is the cold cut combo — with black forest ham, genoa salami and bologna — which is his go-to sandwich.
At this Subway location, current featured menu sandwich options include the All American Club with oven-roasted turkey, black forest ham and hickory smoked bacon, The Monster with shaved steak, bacon and monterey cheddar and the Supreme Meats with black forest ham, genoa salami and capicola.
In addition to sandwiches, this location offers salads, personal pizzas, breakfast and traditional wraps and protein bowls.
