Healing House KC welcomes neighbors and supporters into its growing campus Saturday afternoon, celebrating the season with hot drinks, sweet treats, and two major milestones for the nonprofit recovery community.

The annual Holiday Open House offers guests a first look inside the newly renovated Family Enrichment Center, a warm, kid-friendly space designed to help families heal together. The center will host parenting classes, support groups, tutoring, and other programs that strengthen family bonds for those rebuilding their lives after addiction.

Just down the block, visitors can also tour Collin’s House, Healing House’s newest recovery home. The residence provides safe, stable housing for individuals working toward long-term sobriety—a cornerstone of the organization’s mission.

“The holidays are all about connection and community—and that’s what Healing House is all about every day of the year,” said founder and CEO Bobbi Jo Reed, who will be greeting guests and answering questions throughout the afternoon. “We’re thrilled to open our doors and invite neighbors, friends, and partners to see firsthand how hope and healing come to life here.”

Throughout the open house, residents, staff, and volunteers will share stories of recovery and transformation, offering a glimpse into the daily work that has made Healing House a pillar of support in the Historic Northeast.

One of the most beloved parts of the annual celebration is the Angel Tree, a simple but meaningful way for community members to brighten Christmas for the many children who call Healing House home.

While the ministry ensures each child receives essentials like socks and underwear, they rely on the community to help provide toys and fun gifts. The Angel Tree—located at Healing House’s administrative offices at 4505 St. John Ave.—holds tags listing wish-items for either a boy or a girl. Volunteers can stop by, select a card, and shop for a child who might otherwise go without.

For many Northeast neighbors, it has become a holiday tradition.

Healing House currently serves men, women, and children recovering from addiction, homelessness, and trauma. The organization’s growth in recent years has allowed it to expand programming, increase housing capacity, and strengthen support services for families navigating recovery together.

This year’s open house, held at the Recovery Community Center at 112 N. Elmwood Avenue, also gives first-time visitors a closer look at the faith-based nonprofit’s broader mission—to create a stable, caring community where sobriety is supported and celebrated.
