BREAKING — Just after 6:30 p.m. this evening, Sept. 3, Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) officers dispatched to the 500 block of Bales Ave. on a reported Emergency Medical Services (EMS)/ Medical Nature Unknown call.

Officers joined the Kansas City Fire Department (KCFD) upon arrival who had located an unresponsive, adult male with gunshot trauma inside of an apartment. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to a release from KCPD Media Unit, Wednesday evening. KCPD has identified the victim as Darren Walton (58).

KCPD has not conducted an initial investigation and no suspects have been identified or taken into custody at this time.

This incident is currently under homicide investigation and remains ongoing, according to a release from KCPD Media Unit, Wednesday evening.

Homicide detectives and investigators have begun canvassing the scene to collect evidence and gather statements from any witnesses.
