Located prominently in the heart of the Historic Northeast, Gringo Loco at 3825 Independence Avenue has grown into much more than a grocery store. It’s a neighborhood hub where families can find everything from fresh produce and meats to custom cakes and Central American breads.

Owner Alex Huynh opened the store with his wife, Cindy Teng more than a decade ago with the vision of creating a market that reflected the diverse tastes of the community. Over the years, Gringo Loco has become best known for its wide variety of Mexican and Latino foods, as well as its complete meat department and popular in-house bakery. Shoppers also turn to the store for household essentials, money transfers, and bill payment services, making it a true one-stop shop.

The Carniceria, added during a major expansion, showcases fresh cuts of meat in glass cases, ensuring customers know exactly what they’re bringing home to their families. The bakery counter, meanwhile, tempts visitors with sweets, custom cakes, and fresh breads that bring the flavors of Central America just around the corner.

Huynh can often be found working alongside his team, greeting regulars, and lending a hand with everyday needs. His investment in the Avenue extends beyond his business—he’s an active supporter of the Independence Avenue CID and its efforts to strengthen and beautify the district.

Gringo Loco is open daily from 7 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. For more information or to place a custom cake order, call (816) 492-6152.
