McDonalds, located at 5347 Independence Ave., opened its doors in August 1988 and became a member of the Essig Family McDonald’s corporation in 1997.

Essig Family McDonald’s — which is based out of Kearney, Mo. — is a multi-generational family business, which works to serve 37 restaurants across its corporation. Spearheaded by Owner Lisa Essig, Essig Family McDonald’s remains the largest women-owned McDonald’s operator across the U.S., the Essig corporation shared with Northeast News in an email.

The corporation was founded through Essig’s father, who purchased the company’s first McDonald’s location in Liberty, Mo., when Essig was just 13 years old. The company shared that she began her first job working the drive-thru at that Liberty location.

Essig continued working at McDonald’s through her high school and college studies and after obtaining a degree in business management, she became a McDonald’s restaurant manager. This led her to oversee Essig Family McDonald’s restaurants for around seven years.

Across its 37 locations, Essig Family McDonald’s employs around 2,000 people including three of Essig’s four children, the Essig corporation shared with Northeast News.

The Independence Avenue Essig Family McDonald’s location has a few new advertising promotions, which it is currently offering and will be offering within the coming weeks for customers. These include — but are not limited to — 99 cent vanilla cones from now until Aug. 3, $3 bagel breakfast sandwiches, which will be offered from July 1 through July 20 and snack wraps — which will return on July 10 — at $5.99 for a medium, two snack wrap meal. This snack wrap deal will be available once a week from July 10 through Aug. 10.

For those interested in becoming a member of the Essig Family McDonald’s team, the business is currently hiring at a multitude of its 37 locations, including 5437 Independence Ave.

“Essig Family McDonald’s prioritizes the growth and success of [its] team members. They take pride in fostering an environment where crew members can thrive through flexible schedules, opportunities for career advancement, comprehensive benefits and support for continued education,” the Essig corporation shared with Northeast News.
