BREAKING- Just before 2 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4, Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) officers were dispatched to the 500 block of (S.) Quincy Ave. on a reported cutting.
The KCPD Media Unit reports that officers responded to the scene where they observed a residence with an open door and several people outside, summoning officers to the home. Officers entered the residence to locate any potential victims and observed an adult male suffering from apparent stab wounds inside. Emergency medical aid was immediately given to the victim by responding officers until Emergency Medical Services (EMS) arrived and transported the male to an area hospital. The male had succumbed to his injuries at the hospital and was pronounced deceased.
Preliminary investigation indicates the incident may have started over a verbal argument that escalated to violence. An adult female was identified, located, and taken into custody on scene for further questioning. Detectives are not currently looking for any additional individuals responsible.
The victim has been identified as McKelby, Darrell; He was 24 years old.
Homicide detectives and crime scene personnel responded to collect evidence and gather witness statements.
This incident is being investigated as a homicide and is ongoing at this time.
