The Deron Cherry Foundation- a nonprofit organization that supports Kansas City charities- welcomed supporters Saturday, Sept. 27, at its annual #KCCARES Celebrity Tailgate Party. This fundraising and auction event is aimed at bolstering the organization’s work in the community.

This year’s event was held at the Foundation’s newly acquired property, the former Budweiser distribution facility at 19th and Woodland. Plans are already underway to transform this site into a dedicated venue for future gatherings and community initiatives.
The evening featured both spirited bidding and heartfelt reminders of the foundation’s mission. Youth programs took center stage, with special attention given to the donation of school supplies for teachers across local school districts.

Among the many auction highlights was a piece of Kansas City sports history: the late Derrick Thomas’ Mercedes. Other coveted items included an autographed seat back from Arrowhead Stadium, custom-crafted flags, and select bourbons crafted by Wise Spirits.

Guests enjoyed a catered dinner, capped off with sweet treats from a funnel cake food truck.
Laura Birdsong, Resource Team Manager with the Independence Avenue Community Improvement District, attended this event.
“It was an honor to be present at the event that showed so many companies and individuals coming together in support of this amazing organization,” she said.
The event drew an impressive crowd, including former Kansas City Chiefs football players Deron Cherry, Neil Smith, and Christian Okoye. The evening’s activities were organized by Erin Quador of the Deron Cherry Foundation, whose efforts helped bring together athletes, fans, and community members for a memorable night of celebration and generosity.
