Northeast News: Back-to-School Issue Launch Party
Aug 2, 5-7 p.m., 2659 Independence Ave.
Join the Northeast News staff for an alley party to celebrate the release of the 24th annual Back-to-School issue! Our interns worked hard this summer to create the most in-depth edition in our history – in English and Spanish! We’re excited to host our community for food & yard games from 5-7 p.m. at the Northeast News, 2659 Independence Avenue. This is a fundraiser to support our community news efforts.

Tax Free Weekend on Back-to-School Items

KCPSFest 2023
Aug 5, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., East High School, 1924 Van Brunt Blvd.
Receive school supplies and have access to on-site health services. This event is strictly drive-thru only, please follow signage when you arrive. Volunteers will be on-site to assist with traffic flow and handling of supplies. Immunizations are handled by health sponsors and require an appointment. Please do not attend this event if you are sick or symptomatic.

Guinotte Manor Back to School Event Aug 9, 3-6 p.m. Garrison Community Center 1124 E. 5th Backpacks, games/activities, prizes, live DJ, food. Presented by the Housing Authority of Kansas City.

Mattie Rhodes Back to School Rally
Aug 10, 4-6 p.m. at 148 N. Topping Ave.
The Back-to-School Rally provides a fun, safe, and informative space where the students and families can gain the tools and resources they need in order to have a successful school year. Free school supplies! School uniform raffle! Register for free immunizations, sports physicals & eye exams using this online form.

Bounce Back to School
Aug 12, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., 825 Euclid Ave.
Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center and Show Me KC Schools will host Bounce Back to School, a resource and information fair, to help families and students get ready to go back to school on August 12. The health center and Show Me KC Schools are collecting school supplies to put together backpacks prior to the event and volunteers are needed to help assemble the backpacks. Northeast Summer Block Party
Aug 12, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Concourse Park, 200 S Benton Blvd.
300 backpacks will be donated to families who attend. They will also have food, fun activities, resources from organizations and many more FREE giveaways! Sponsored by Jackson County COMBAT, MOCSA and Mattie Rhodes.

Northeast High School Back to School Bash
August 17, 4-6 p.m. You can expect to meet with Northeast staff, engage with the Northeast community, sign up for clubs/organizations/athletics, register for Parent Portal access, and pick up class schedules. Call (816) 418-3300 for info.

North-East Library: Back-To-School Resource Fair
Aug 19, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., 6000 Wilson Rd.
Free backpacks and school supplies for K-12 students. Vendors, food & fun. Children must be present to receive a backpack. Sponsored by the Kansas City Public Library and Exceed Expectations, Inc.

Global FC: Back-to-School Bash
Aug 19, 1-5 p.m., PH Coffee, 2200 Lexington Ave.
Join us for this multicultural community engagement event where we will be sharing donated school supplies with our students, eating good food, and having a great time! All are welcome! Please feel free to invite family and friends, as well as anyone who may be interested in learning more about Global FC.
