Kansas City Police Department’s (KCPD) Media Unit reports a fatal collision with a cyclist and truck occurred at 9:05 p.m., on Wednesday, Sept. 24. A cyclist traveling east on Independence Avenue  changed lanes at the Hardesty Avenue intersection, entering the westbound lane, and was struck head-on by a westbound white pickup truck approaching the intersection. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) arrived at the scene and pronounced the cyclist deceased.

The driver of the pickup fled the scene in an unknown direction. KCPD had not released a complete description of this vehicle at press time and this investigation is ongoing.
