Thursday evening, June 25,  just after 6:15 p.m., Kansas City Police officers were dispatched to the 2800 block of E. 6th St. on a reported Domestic Violence Disturbance.

Upon arrival, a group of individuals directed officers to a residence advising that an adult female was being assaulted. Officers could hear sounds of a disturbance coming from inside of the home followed by multiple sounds of gunshots. Officers made entry into the home where they located an adult female victim suffering from apparent gunshot trauma. The victim was transported to an area hospital by EMS. After life-saving medical intervention, hospital staff notified detectives the victim had succumbed to her injuries and was subsequently pronounced deceased around 7:50 p.m.

On Friday morning, June 26, the victim was identified as Kelly, Antwala B/F 09/11/1980. 

Preliminary investigation indicates that the adult male and adult female were involved in an argument before it escalated into a physical disturbance. The relationship between the male and female is not currently known at this time. An adult male subject was located inside of the residence and was taken into custody for further investigation. 

On Friday afternoon, June 26, the Jackson County Prosecutor’s office announced charges of 2nd Degree Murder and Armed Criminal Action filed against William O’Neal.

The defendant was taken into custody without incident. 

A Jackson County judge set the defendant’s bond at $300,000 cash only. 

According to the prosecutor’s office, these charges are only accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until the defendant is either found guilty or pleads guilty.
