BREAKING — Just before 8 a.m. this morning, Aug. 27, Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) officers responded to the area of 23rd Street and Topping Avenue within the Blue Valley neighborhood on a reported shooting.

Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult male victim at the south end of Blue Valley Park with gunshot wounds. The Kansas City Fire Department (KCFD) and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were requested to the scene and transported the victim to a nearby hospital in critical condition, according to a release from KCPD Media Unit, Wednesday morning. The victim was pronounced deceased at the hospital. KCPD has identified the victim as Sean Booth (44).

Detective and investigators are currently conducting an initial investigation of this incident. KCPD has determined a potential subject of interest who was taken into custody for further investigation. It was additionally discovered that a vehicle was potentially involved in this incident, according to a release from KCPD Media Unit, Wednesday morning.

This incident is currently under homicide investigation. Detectives and crime scene investigators are canvassing the area for witnesses and evidence.
