The showcase, featuring artists from Columbus Park and surrounding areas, takes place from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, May 8, with events and exhibits spread across multiple venues and local businesses. Organizers describe proXimity as an evening designed to encourage neighbors and visitors alike to explore the community while supporting local artists, musicians and small businesses.

In addition to gallery exhibits, attendees can expect live music, neighborhood pop-ups, food vendors and outdoor gathering spaces throughout Columbus Park. Organizers say the event is meant to highlight the neighborhood’s growing arts scene while creating a relaxed, walkable atmosphere for residents and visitors.

Three main art venues will anchor the event: Trap Gallery (525 Gillis), 815 Gallery 815 E 5th) and Don Bosco Community Center (526 Campbell). Each location will feature artwork from local creators, with many pieces available for purchase.

Local food vendor LaSala’s, which operated a neighborhood grocer and Italian deli for over a century in the Columbus Park neighborhood, plans to serve quarter loaf Rich Boy sandwiches for $10 during the event at 5th & Harrison.

With warm spring weather expected and activities spread throughout the neighborhood, proXimity is shaping up to be both an art showcase and a community celebration for one of Kansas City’s oldest neighborhoods.

Admission is free, and all are welcome to attend. Visitors are encouraged to explore the various venues on foot and experience the art, music and local flavor that make Columbus Park a unique part of Kansas City’s cultural landscape.
