Chalk Walk — an all day community art experience — will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 10 at The Concourse (200 Benton Blvd). This annual event, sponsored by Northeast Arts KC, provides artists of all ages and talents the opportunity to get creative in a street fair setting with live music, puppets and other activities.

Along the sidewalk surrounding the Concourse fountain, professional artists and other creatives can design a 10 by 10 foot square  using provided pastels. Other spaces inside the fountain boundaries are provided for children, along with sidewalk chalk, or they can help decorate the “chalk cow” — a 3D chalkboard that’s become a Chalk Walk favorite among attendees.

Artists and visitors can enjoy performances of live music beginning at 11 a.m., as well as puppets from StoneLion Puppet Theatre that will roam the area. Joseph Warren of the Wanderlust Revival will perform from 11 a.m. to noon. Then, the Fritz Hutchison Band will provide music from 2 to 4 p.m.

This event will conclude at 8 p.m., but visitors can continue to view this chalk art display on Sunday, May 11. Sponsors for this year’s event include the Kansas City Neighborhood Tourist Development Fund and Kansas City Parks & Recreation.
