KANSAS CITY, Missouri – A Northeast woman was found dead this morning in an apartment building off of Independence Blvd., and police are investigating the death as a homicide.

A subject of interest in the case was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The individual has not yet been interviewed at this time, but police did confirm that they initially made contact with the subject of interest at the scene of the crime.

Officers were dispatched this morning at approximately 5am to the 2500 block of Independence Blvd on a Disturbance call. Upon arrival officers were flagged down by a man who directed them to an apartment in the Stonewall Court complex that borders Wabash Avenue. Officers followed the man and discovered a female victim inside an apartment. KCFD responded to the scene and declared the victim dead at the scene. Witnesses indicated that drugs and domestic violence may have played a role in the crime. Police towed a late model Red Chevrolet Impala from the area. The investigation is ongoing. The homicide is the 56th in Kansas City this year.
