Weekend road work: Crews to close I-70 in the northern portion of downtown loop

MoDOT Kansas City will be making pavement repairs in the northern portion of the downtown loop beginning on Friday, Aug. 20. This work will require the total closure of both eastbound and westbound Interstate 70 between the state line and I-35 in the northeast corner of the downtown loop beginning at approximately 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 20, until approximately 5 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 23.

The following ramps will also be CLOSED during this time:

  • The ramp from southbound MO Route 9 to northbound I-35.
  • The ramp from southbound U.S. 169 to northbound I-35.
  • The ramp from Sixth St. to northbound I-35.
  • The ramp from Independence Ave. to southbound I-35.
  • The ramp from southbound MO Route 9 to southbound I-35.
  • The ramp from Delaware St. to southbound I-35.
  • The ramp from northbound U.S. 169 to southbound I-35.
  • The ramp from northbound I-35 to eastbound I-70.
  • The ramps from Broadway to eastbound and westbound I-70
  • The ramp from Beardsley to westbound I-70.
  • The ramp from 5th St. to westbound I-70.

Motorists must find alternate routes during this time. All work is weather permitting.

MoDOT asks drivers to be patient and considerate to their fellow motorists. Use the zipper merge and take turns at merge points. Remember that all work zones are no phone zones. Buckle up. Phone down. Arrive Alive. For potential impacts to traffic, please review KC Scout cameras at http://www.kcscout.net or consult our real-time traffic partner, WAZE.

Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones. Not all work zones look alike. Work zones can be moving operations, such as striping, patching or mowing. They can also be short term, temporary lane closures to make quick repairs or remove debris from the roadway.
