As part of national clean-up day, mayor Quinton Lucas stopped by Troost Lake Park to do some cleanup and pick up trash. Lucas stressed the importance of the parks ambassador program.
The parks department , like many city departments, is cutting budgets and possibly cutting mowing schedules, Lucas indicated that this program was vital to keeping Kansas City’s Parts viable and usable.

“With the cuts we’re facing over the next year, probably the next two or three so programs like this really help us fill a gap,” Lucas noted.

Volunteers from Global FC and Jerusalem Farms also fanned out across the city, one group focusing on Cliff Drive near the old City Reservoir picking up litter and doing some light brush clearing.

Parks Ambassadors Johnnie Lee and LeVester Hawkins are weekly fixtures at Troost Lake Park, picking up trash and litter.
