Vision the Avenue: One Building at a Time

Abby Hoover
Managing Editor

The Northeast Kansas City Chamber of Commerce (CoC) is hosting a panel discussion on possible uses for three key properties on Independence Avenue.

The panel, entitled Vision the Avenue: One Building at a Time, will include commercial property owners who want to hear from residents about what type of business the Historic Northeast community would support in commercial space that is currently unused.

The properties being discussed are either new construction or rehab projects at 4835 Independence Ave., 2600 Independence Ave., and 2807 Independence Ave.

Recently, developers broke ground at 2600 Independence Ave. for a strip mall. The address was the location of a deadly fire in 2015, and has sat vacant since with only the foundation of the building remaining.

2807 Independence Ave. is the old Mayfair Cleaners location, and 4835 is formerly Aaron’s Rent-to-Own.

The panel discussion will be both in person at the CoC office, 2657 Independence Avenue, and via Zoom. The Zoom meeting information can be found at nekcchamber.com.
