This week our Throwback Thursday goes back fifty years to the August 20, 1970 edition of The Northeast News. Available for a whopping 10 cents on your local news-stand.

The front page, above the fold story for that week was the traffic
questionnaire from the city’s Transportation Department on making Quincy and Denver one way streets between St. John and Gladstone Boulevard.
This would be done to alleviate school time traffic hazards around Holy Cross School.

The Blue Valley Cub Scout World Series winners were announced and it was none other than Cub Pack 21 of Oakley Methodist Church at Independence & Elmwood. One of those little fellas, Jeff Roberts just retired from a bunch of years with KMBC TV as a Photo Journalist.
The Blue Valley Kiwanis Club celebrated their annual picnic in Blue Valley Park. About 40 members and their families celebrated in Blue Valley Park. Pictured in the photo are Hugh Patchin, Sam Malaponti, Joe Vigliaturo, Sam Anch and Ken White.
There’s a whole page of brides in that edition and you can bet a small fortune was spent on Aqua Net for those pictures. Just sayin.
Headed out for an adult beverage and some live entertainment? Wally’s BBQ at 3927 Truman Road was one option. Another was the Mountaineer Club at 5910 Independence featured “lovely go-go girls” to go along with your
spaghetti and meatballs! Such a deal!
