Updated on 11:20 Dec. 14: The victim has been identified as Devonta Dunson, a 25-year old Black male.

At approximately 6:15 on Friday morning, Dec. 4, Kansas City Missouri Firefighters responded to the area of 10th Street and Winner Road on a reported vehicle fire.

Roughly eight hours later, at approximately 2:15 p.m., Kansas City Missouri Police (KCPD) officers responded to a 911 call from an individual passing by of a reported dead body in a burned vehicle near 10th and Winner Road.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the body of an individual inside the burned vehicle. The death was being investigated as suspicious. According to KCPD Spokesperson Donna Drake, no other information is available at this time. 

On Monday, Dec. 7, police announced the case had been upgraded to a homicide investigation.
