Kansas City Police officers were dispatched to the 3400 block of St. John Avenue on Wednesday morning on a shots fired call. When they arrived, they found an AT&T technician who indicated he had been shot in the lower leg, then robbed at gunpoint, in that order.

Police detained a subject near Askew and Windsor who matched the description of the robber/shooter. Upon being searched however, the man fled from officers on foot. After a foot chase that spread across four city blocks, the suspect was apprehended in the 3800 block of Morrell Avenue.

The AT&T technician was doing service work on a telephone junction box located in the 100 block of North Bales when the incident occurred. He was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The suspect was captured and taken to East Patrol where he is awaiting certification as an adult and charges. It is believed the suspect was also involved in a street robbery earlier in the day where a woman walking her dog near Jackson Avenue and Morrell was robbed. Police remained on the scene near Askew and Windsor awaiting a search warrant to search the suspect’s home for the weapon used in the crime.
