For the third year in a row, Sheffield Place has been awarded 4-stars by Charity Navigator.

Charity Navigator is a government-run organization that helps donors make decisions on how to donate their dollars, by rating the validity and usefulness of each organization.

Sheffield Place was 1 of only 67 in the entire U.S., and the only one in Kansas City to receive the perfect 4-star score.

In 2018, Sheffield Place had 436 volunteers that dedicated over 4171 hours of their time, which assisted the success of the non-profit. They are the only non-profit in Kansas City, and the only charity in the 2-State Area to be given this recognition.
Sheffield Place opened their doors in 1991. They saw a need to help the growing homeless population of mothers and children, and took action.

Since then, they have continuously shown their importance in Kansas City, and all over the nation.

Sheffield Place became the first in the nation to provide three evidence-based therapeutic modalities for traumatized children in 2007.

In 2008, they put CARE (Child Adult Relationship Enhancement) into place, which is a model for trauma informed service systems. In 2008 they also were one of 20 organizations chosen to participate in “a learning community sponsored by The National Child Traumatic Stress Network to implement Integrated Treatment of Complex Trauma (ITCT).”

In 2009, they were recognized as a National Best Practice for Homeless Children. 2011,  Sheffield Place was chosen as a Best Practice in Homeless Services by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Region VII. They received a certification from the Missouri Department of Mental Health in 2012.

The list of their achievements goes on and on, and they do not seem to be slowing down anytime soon.

David Hanzlick, Director of Programs and Development at Sheffield Place said, “Right now we have 10 single family homes, and we are acquiring three more for personal housing. We hope to have 15, and move on to multi-family housing next.”

This permanent housing move is incredibly unique for the Kansas City area, and the way everything is handled is the transparency from Sheffield’s board.

“It is a wonderful gratification to be recognized,” said Hanzlick, “that Sheffield place is so honest with how they are financed that it is recognized on a national level.”
