Police are on the scene of a standoff in the 900 block of Park Avenue this afternoon.

At about 12:15 p.m., Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) officers were called to the area in regard to an armed residential robbery.  Upon arrival, officers contacted the victim, an adult female, who told officers she got into a verbal conflict with the suspect, a relative of the victim, who refused to give her back some of her belongings.

The victim told officers the suspect pointed a firearm at her and threatened to harm her. Officers attempted to contact the suspect who refused to exit the residence.

Officers called an Operation 100 in order to bring additional tactical resources and negotiators to the scene.

Officers ask that media and citizens avoid the area as it is not safe. KCPD will provide any updates as more information becomes available, which the Northeast News will share here.

Update: Around 5:20, police announced the suspect has been taken into custody without incident. The investigation into the robbery and assault continues.
