The weather was perfect for the Pendleton Heights Orchard Fest at Lexington Avenue and Ord Street on Sunday afternoon. The event was organized by the Pendleton Heights Neighborhood Association. Guests were treated to music, a show by the Stone Lion Puppet Theater and a free pumpkin to take home, as well. The City’s water department showed neighbors how groundwater could be contaminated through the use of a diorama, some natural food coloring and a spray bottle acting as rain. Bee KC, an urban beekeeping group, was also on hand with a live beehive, explaining the importance of developing bee habitats and planting bee-friendly gardens to draw pollinators to the yard. Margarita Friedman gave children the opportunity to make their own take home trick-or-treat decoration.
