A pedestrian is left with critical injuries after being hit by a car on Independence Avenue at Lawndale Avenue today.

Shortly after 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 18, officers from Kansas City, Mo., Police Department’s (KCPD) East Patrol Division responded to a one vehicle collision with a pedestrian.

According to police, a silver Nissan Sentra was traveling west on Independence Avenue.

In the area west of Lawndale, the second lane of travel is closed due to construction, with construction equipment sitting in the roadway. Just west of the closed area, a male pedestrian walked across Independence Avenue from the north to the south.

Due to the view obstruction, the driver of the Nissan did not see the pedestrian and struck him with the right front of his vehicle. The pedestrian was transported to an area hospital with critical injuries. The driver of the Nissan and his daughter were not injured in the collision.

Sunday afternoon police had yellow tape from Topping to Drury avenues as they investigated.
