Overnight homicide at 6th & Monroe

Wednesday evening just after 11 p.m. Kansas City Missouri police officers were called to the area of 6th and Monroe on a sound of shots call. While en route to the call it was upgraded to a shooting.

Upon arrival officers located the body of an adult black male lying in the street. Aid was rendered and EMS was dispatched and transported the victim to a local hospital where he died a short time later.

This is the second homicide within a few blocks in the last two nights. Police have no indication the two cases are related. Both shootings, however were in close proximity to Independence Avenue, a major east-west thoroughfare where many people are driving or walking and may have seen something that would help detectives solve both crimes.

If anyone has any information or saw anything suspicious in this area they are asked to call the Homicide Unit directly at 234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS

There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest in this case.
