NEHS Vikings boys’ basketball off to good start

Northeast News
December 14, 2011
Northeast High School’s boys’ basketball team is on a roll with a 5-1 record and recent championship title during the Interscholastic League Holiday Tournament held Dec. 10. The Vikings beat the East High School Bears 61-59 during the championship game.

NEHS Activities/Athletic Director Jim Conaway called the final game a “hard-fought championship.”

Senior forward Damion Jackson scored the game winning points for the Vikings by hitting a bank shot with 5.7 seconds left on the clock. This is the first tournament championship since the 2005-2006 season when the Vikings captured the Belton Tournament title, Conaway said.

This Friday, the boys will play Southwest at 7 p.m. at the Interscholastic Field House, 3500 E. Meyer Blvd., Kansas City, Mo. On Saturday, the Vikings will compete against Lincoln Prep at 1 p.m. at NEHS, 415 Van Brunt Blvd., Kansas City, Mo.

Other games
Both the junior varsity and freshmen boys’ teams have a record of 2-2 and the varsity and junior varsity girls are 0-1.

On Saturday, Jan. 7, the boys and girls doubleheader will start at 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. against Central High School as part of the nine-game Kansas City Clash at Municipal Auditorium, 301 W 13th St, Kansas City, Mo.
