Northeast High School’s boys’ basketball team is on a roll with a 5-1 record and recent championship title during the Interscholastic League Holiday Tournament held Dec. 10. The Vikings beat the East High School Bears 61-59 during the championship game.

NEHS Activities/Athletic Director Jim Conaway called the final game a “hard-fought championship.”

Senior forward Damion Jackson scored the game winning points for the Vikings by hitting a bank shot with 5.7 seconds left on the clock. This is the first tournament championship since the 2005-2006 season when the Vikings captured the Belton Tournament title, Conaway said.

This Friday, the boys will play Southwest at 7 p.m. at the Interscholastic Field House, 3500 E. Meyer Blvd., Kansas City, Mo. On Saturday, the Vikings will compete against Lincoln Prep at 1 p.m. at NEHS, 415 Van Brunt Blvd., Kansas City, Mo.
