My time at Northeast News

Northeast News

After 34 articles, a Back to School issue, 257 hours and 2,000+ more miles on my car, I’ve completed my internship at the Northeast News.

First, I would like to thank the Northeast News and the Missouri Press Foundation for giving me the opportunity to gain experience in a newsroom as I wrap up my college career and set out in the “real world.”

I have loved getting to know my way around the Northeast, meeting business owners, residents and officials, and learning about what affects an area like this, from schools to government to neighbors helping each other.

Being able to produce content and put my name on it is a huge step towards starting my career once I graduate, but having the real life experience in writing, photography, editing and interviewing is something one cannot learn in a classroom.

As I look back on this summer, I am pleasantly surprised by everything that I got to experience, from flying in a WWII B-17 Bomber to learning about local government and talking to teachers and administrators about their hopes for your children.

The people I have worked with this summer are passionate about what they do and they work with all the integrity and sincerity that media as an industry so desperately needs right now. As an “outsider” to the Historic Northeast, I am able to recognize that the Northeast News is a valuable community resource that shouldn’t be taken for granted.
