This summer, Mattie Rhodes Center is inviting the youth of the Historic Northeast to Club KC, weekly Friday night programming with rotating themes.

Club KC is designed for youth between the ages of six and 17, and those who want to participate can register the night of the event. These events are held for 12 weeks throughout the summer months, starting June 1 and ending August 17.

The events start every Friday at 6 p.m., and are typically over around 10 p.m., when attendees begin to depart. That said, newly-appointed Club KC coordinator Diego Barrios said that organizers are willing to stay until around midnight, if there is enough interest amongst older kids. At present many of the participants are younger children, though Barrios noted that Mattie Rhodes Center would like to entice more teenagers to join in on the festivities, as well.

“Most of the kids, at that time, are not old enough to stay that late,” Barrios said.

They started off the summer with a basketball tournament and had an Art Night on June 8. Some of the other events include a spoken word night during Week 8, scavenger hunts on Week 5 and Week 11, and intermittent movie nights between Weeks 3 and 9.

Those who have not yet registered will be able to register at the Mattie Rhodes Center; those who have already registered will simply be asked to sign in.
