Motorists driving on Front Street at I-435 should expect significant delays this weekend as workers reconfigure the busy crossroads to a diverging diamond interchange.

MoDOT urges all motorists to avoid the area if possible from 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, through 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6.

Asphalt crews will pave Front Street beneath the I-435 overpasses, then shut down Front Street in both directions and close ramps connecting to I-435 at various times to complete paving, redirect signals, place signs and re-stripe lanes.

Once work is completed this weekend, Front Street will become a diverging diamond, shifting traffic beneath I-435 to the left side to accommodate turns and reduce congestion.

Various closures during the changeover on Saturday will include full closure at times of the northbound I-435 movement to westbound Front Street, and southbound I-435 to eastbound Front Street. No left turns will be allowed from the ramps off of I-435 until the changeover is complete. Only local access will be allowed on Front Street. Police will direct traffic during the changeover.

More work in the coming weeks will close lanes at times. Workers will pour concrete islands and install permanent signals and permanent striping as the project continues.
