KANSAS CITY, Missouri – A group of legislators and local officials convened at the reStart shelter (919 E. 9th St., KCMO) on Thursday, May 26 to participate in the organization’s Legislative Reception. The legislators began the reception by hearing from homeless people of all backgrounds who have been assisted by reStart. Afterwards, the legislators gathered in the shelter’s cafeteria to serve lunch to dozens of residents.

reStart, Inc. has been working to end homelessness in Kansas City since 1981. They provide housing and regular meals for homeless men and women of all ages, with the goal of moving each resident towards self-sufficiency. The organization serves the homeless free of charge, and accepts all members of the homeless population as long as they are not a danger to themselves or others.

It was the seventh year that reStart has invited local politicians and officials to participate in its Legislative Reception. Legislators who took part in the event included 1st District Councilman Scott Wagner, 23rd District Representative Randy Dunn, 36th District Councilman DaRon McGee, and Jackson County Legislator Theresa Galvin.
