Early in September we reported on a group of KCU students who founded a local D.O. More Chapter with the intent of giving back to the Historic Northeast community.

Michael Mazur, a second year Student at KCU launched the concept and when their fund raising drive was complete in mid September, the organization had raised a little under $1,200 for Relentless Pursuit and Christine’s Place, two Independence Avenue headquartered organizations focused on ending human trafficking and prostitution in the Historic Northeast community.

When Northeast Chamber of Commerce President and Independence Avenue CID CEO  Bobbi Baker-Hughes learned of the effort to help some of the Avenue’s most vulnerable population, she authorized a pledge of an additional $320, bringing the donated total to $1,500.
“The chamber and CID realized with the funds raised would be going to purchase hygiene products, this made this donation so much more necessary,” said Baker-Hughes. “These are essential and important in elevating the self worth of the people who Christine’s Place and Relentless Pursuit work with every day.”

Last Sunday, Mazur and his D.O. More team members dropped off over 100 ditty-bags Christine’s Place, filled with essentials like toothpaste, shampoo and non-perishable food items.
“We don’t have to be the ones who start a charity or put on a big event,” said Mazur. “Simply supporting those organizations that are already in place making those differences with a small donation of time or money will bless the lives of many.”
