Scuola Vita Nuova students received free health screenings Sept. 17 as part of the Score 1 for Health program which serves more than 13,000 children annually in the Kansas City metro.

During the event, the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences (KCUMB) first and second year students provided the free screenings at the KCUMB campus for the kindergarten through eighth graders, checking the youngsters’ blood pressure, vision, dental and physical health. The screenings aim to detect any physical problems early on in the child’s development so he or she doesn’t fall behind in class due to an illness or inability to hear, see or concentrate.

In addition to the screenings, the fourth through eighth grade students participated in hands-on activities, learning about health, medical sciences and technology.
