The Kansas City Police Department is asking for the community’s help identifying subjects of interest in regard to a fatal hit-and-run crash from August 1 at 3:27 a.m.

On August 1, emergency crews responded to Truman Road at the base of the exit ramp from northbound I-435 in regard to a fatal hit-and-run involving a pedestrian.

Investigation determined that a Kia sedan had been eastbound when the driver apparently lost control. The vehicle drove over the south curb of the roadway and struck the pedestrian, who had been sitting at the base of the exit ramp beyond the curb line.

The vehicle then continued across the lanes of the exit ramp and struck a metal utility pole. The occupants of the car, identified as an adult male and female, then exited the car and fled the scene eastbound on foot.

The pedestrian, identified as a 55-year-old Independence man, died at the scene. Two other pedestrians who had been with the victim at the time, but were not struck, reported that they had been sitting together at the base of the exit ramp soliciting money from drivers.

If anyone can identify any of the subjects in this video, KCPD requests they contact Detective Anthony Contreras at 816-442-0558 or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
