In what’s becoming an almost weekly occurrence, multiple gunshots rang out along the St. John corridor, this time in the 3600 block in the Scarritt Renaissance neighborhood.
Police were called yesterday at about 3:45 p.m. to a home in the 3600 block of St. John Ave on an outside disturbance, shots fired call. Upon arrival, officers determined that at least five suspects were still inside the residence and officers blocked traffic on St. John between Askew and Monroe. The Della Lamb Elementary Charter School directly to the west of the residence was locked down briefly while officers searched the residence in question, taking five into custody, one of them a female.
Shortly thereafter, another crime scene was established in the 100 block of North Gladstone Boulevard, where shell casings were found in the street and a witness noted a white car after a number of shots were fired toward the building. One victim of the shooting was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police are continuing their investigation this morning. Neighbors who live nearby report the residence along St. John has been a problem for many months and that gunfire often erupts at all hours at or near the residence.
“They’ve been shootin’ it up for the last week or so down there,” said a Windsor Avenue resident who lives nearby. “Hopefully with these people in custody, it’ll be quieter now.”
