Much-needed sidewalk repairs in Kansas City have officially begun.

In April of 2017, Kansas City voters approved an $800 million general obligation bond package for capital improvements. Of that, $150 million was set aside for residential sidewalk repairs throughout the city. On Friday, April 13, the GO KC sidewalk repair program kicked off with a press conference and repairs at 33rd and Michigan Avenue. Mayor Sly James and other elected officials were present to mark the official beginning of the effort, as concrete was poured for the first of many planned targets.

In December 2017, the City Council approved two contracts intended to cover the first round of repairs, which primarily cover backlogged requests. Many of those repair projects are planned for the Historic Northeast, with first-year budget allocations for: E. 9th St. from Bales to Cleveland; Kensington Ave. from St. John to Anderson; N. Lawn from Scarritt Ave. to Sunrise; E. 6th St. from Chestnut to Gladstone, E. 6th St. from Brighton to Denver; E. 14th St. from Topping to White; Thompson Ave. from Topping to Bellaire; Collins Ave. from E. 12th St. to Truman Rd.; E 6th St. from Elmwood to Van Brunt; Lyon from N. Denver to N. Hardesty; Drury Ave. from Smart to Thompson; and N. Topping from Norledge to Saida.
